The Leafs have been without Victor Mete since he suffered what the team is calling a "lower-body injury" on December 6th. At the time, they were expecting Mete to be out short-term, however, a couple of weeks ago, Sheldon Keefe made the announcement that the injury Mete sustained was more serious than initially thought.

As he continues his recovery and rehab, Mete took a massive stride forward today as he returned to the ice ahead of practice doing skating drills by himself. It is the first time he has skated since his injury and bodes well that he will be able to return before the trade deadline.

Having Mete healthy before the deadline could sway Kyle Dubas into using more assets to acquire a top-six forward instead of splitting his assets to acquire a defenseman. In 11 games with the Leafs this season, Mete has just 2 points, often playing on the third pair.
