The Toronto Maple Leafs have placed forward Nick Ritchie on waivers. Ritchie, 26, has had a disappointing first season of a two-year deal that carries a $2.5 million cap hit.
Ritchie currently has just 1 goal in 30 games this season and was a healthy scratch on Saturday when the Leafs had a fully healthy forward lineup for the first time this season.
If Ritchie goes unclaimed and is sent to the Toronto Marlies, the Leafs will have $1.2 million in cap with him in the minors as only $1.3 million of his $2.5 million cap hit can be buried.
It's unfortunate that the Leafs have reached this point with Ritchie, but hopefully he can get his game back on track. Whether that be in the minors or with another organization.
We will find out where Ritchie ends up at approximately 2pm ET on Friday, but until then the forward will sit on waivers as Leafs Nation fantasizes about what comes next.
