The Leafs made it official early this afternoon as they officially hired Shane Doan to join their front office. Doan will act as a special advisor to Brad Treliving, leaving his post as Executive Director of Player Development in Arizona to do so.

"I am honoured to join the Toronto Maple Leafs in this role. The Maple Leafs have a such deep history and a passionate fan base, and I'm excited to contribute in any way I can in the organization's pursuit of their ultimate goal," said Doan in an official statement about the opportunity to join the Leafs' front office.

Treliving also released a statement about hiring Doan saying, "Through his more than 1500 NHL GP, his management roles, being a team captain for more than a decade & being just a wonderful human being, Shane has touched all the aspects of the game which make him a terrific fit with Leafs organization, its staff & players."

Doan and Treliving have a long history as Treliving was AGM in Arizona before taking the GM job in Calgary in 2014. Doan has spent his entire career, both in his playing days and post-retirement, with the Coyotes. Elliotte Friedman reported earlier that Treliving mentioned bringing Doan in during his interview process for the Leafs' GM job and he has now done so.

Doan was Auston Matthews' favourite player growing up and his son has known Matthew Knies since they were kids as well, so do what you will with that information as well. I'm sure there will be a number of rumours about the Leafs acquiring Josh Doan at some point. We are, as you know, connected to everyone after all.
