There was one surprising absence on Sunday, as newly signed Calle Jarnkrok was not skating with the main group or the secondary group, which raised some concerns over his health status heading into the final week of the preseason. Well, thankfully, Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe poured some water on the situation following the second group skate on Sunday, confirming that Jarnkrok was simply under the weather.
Jarnkrok, a swiss army knife-type player, has played wing, center and defense for the Leafs so far during the exhibition season. The 30-year-old was brought in to replace Ilya Mikheyev, who departed for Vancouver as a UFA this summer. The Leafs saved themselves $2.65M per season and (arguably) improved the team by going with Jarnkrok over shelling out $4.75M per season on Mikheyev.
