Leafs hold an unfortunate record after last night's Game 7 loss
Unfortunately, it just wasn't enough against the defending back to back champs this time around. Once again, the Leafs had 2 opportunities to close out a series and failed to do so, but not for a lack of effort or their stars not showing up.
Unlike Florida, the Leafs failed to snap their series winless streak last night and now hold the current longest active streak without winning a playoff round dating back to 2004. Florida held that by a substantial amount of years until the other night when they ended their drought that dated back to 1996.
As well as the Leafs played last night, game 6 and basically the entire series against Tampa, they couldn't overcome the adversity. Since 2018, the Leafs have had zero luck in close out games, going 0-9 and 1 for 18 on the powerplay. For a team that had the best powerplay all season, it once again let them down when it was needed the most, as did their penalty kill.
It's certainly one of the worst records to hold, but at least the Leafs still have another 7 years before they match Florida's record right?
