The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed right winger Nicolas Aube-Kubel to a one year contract paying $1 million dollars. The Slave Lake, AB native was a 2nd round pick by the Philadelphia Flyers in 2014. Aube-Kubel was not given a Qualifying Offer by the Colorado Avalanche and became a UFA today.

Aube-Kubel coming in at such a low cap hit after helping the Colorado Avalanche win the Cup is a tidy piece of business for Kyle Dubas. He will make a great addition to the Leafs bottom 6. Aube-Kubel recorded 11 goals, 12 assists for 23 points with the Avs inh the regular season. He also added 1 goal, 2 assists, and one large dent in the Stanley Cup during the Avs championship run.

This is a great value signing by Dubas and co. Aube-Kubel brings a lot of speed to the Leafs bottom 6 and is a relentless forechecker. At 5'11. 187lbs, he's not a huge player, but he isn't undersized either. At only $1 million for the season, this signing also leaves the Leafs with plenty of options on the UFA market.
