At 29 years old the deal could look bad at the end, but for now, the Rangers fill the hole left by Strome at center on the second line. Trochek will slot in next to Panerin, but the chemistry will be interesting given that both of them like to have the puck on their stick, unlike Strome. Trochek put up 21 goals and 51 points last season with Carolina, but the 7 years for a guy that has only cracked 50 points once in the last 5 years is questionable.
It also appears that the Rangers had attempted to resign Andrew Copp for the same money and less term but Copp chose to sign with the Wings instead.
