While the rest of the league scrambled to sign free agents for next season on Saturday on the first day of free agency, things have gone quiet in Toronto. Michael Bunting, Ryan O'Reilly, Noel Acciari, Justin Holl and Luke Schenn have all left for greener pastures, leaving the Leafs empty handed on day one, with the exception of Ryan Reaves, who signed a 3-year deal at the start of the day. The latest Leaf to find employment elsewhere is goaltender Erik Källgren.

Sportsnet writer Luke Fox informs us that Källgren has signed a 1-year, two-way deal with the Devils. New Jersey will be paying him $775,000 at the NHL level and $300,000 at the AHL level in exchange for his services.

Källgren impressed early in his Leafs career, posting a shutout in his first career NHL start. Unfortunately, while he was a serviceable third goalie, he never managed to evolve beyond that with the Leafs. Källgren's exit will create more room in a jam packed goalie pipeline for the Leafs. With Joseph Woll likely to be a full time Leaf, Dennis Hildeby, Vyacheslav Peksa, Keith Petruzzelli and Dryden McKay will all get plenty of ice time with the Marlies and Growlers.
