Late last night, the Leafs made a pair of roster moves, sending Joseph Woll back to the AHL's Toronto Marlies, which could be viewed as good news regarding the health of Matt Murray. They also recalled veteran winger Wayne Simmonds.

Murray was injured against the Detroit Red Wings last week when Lucas Raymond lost an edge and slid through the crease taking out Murray's feet and causing him to hit his head. Murray was listed as day-to-day but appears ready to return now.

In order to activate Ryan O'Reilly from LTIR for their last game against Boston, the Leafs had to clear cap space, shifting Bobby McMann to LTIR and assigning Simmonds and Nick Abruzzese to the Marlies. With the Leafs about to play their final home game of the season, it would seem as though they might be trying to do right by Simmonds and let him play as a final farewell.

Simmonds last played April 2nd against Detroit and has skated in just 17 games this season, registering just 2 assists. A hometown kid, Simmonds signed a 2-year extension worth $900K per season prior to the 2021/2022 season and will be a UFA at the end of this season.
