Leafs make another huge blockbuster trade just days before the deadline

After acquiring Ryan O'Reilly and Noel Acciari a few weeks ago, Kyle Dubas swung for the fences again this afternoon. He acquired Jake McCabe and Sam Lafferty from the Chicago Blackhawks.

The Leafs acquired Jake McCabe, Sam Lafferty, a conditional 5th round pick in 2024 and a conditional 5th round pick in 2025 from Chicago in exchange for a conditional 2025 1st round pick, 2026 2nd round pick, Joey Anderson and Pavel Gogolev. The conditional first round pick is top-10 protected and Chicago will retain 50% of McCabe's salary for the next two seasons.

The retention of McCabe's salary very likely means that he will be Justin Holl's replacement for the next two years at the same cap hit of $2M per season as Holl is a UFA at seasons end.
