Jones did allow one goal in the contest, but also made a number of timely saves to preserve the lead and, ultimately, the Leafs skated away with the victory. Following the win, the Leafs, as always, handed out the Player of the Game belt. While Jones was officially credited with the win, the Leafs chose to award the belt to not only Jones, but to Woll as well.
This marks the first time that the Leafs have awarded the belt to a tandem. Woll, since he was being tended to by the Leafs' medical staff, wasn't present for the photo, but it was clear that he was a major factor in the team winning that game, so he certainly deserved the honour.
Tonight, the Leafs take on the red-hot Nashville Predators. While there was some belief earlier on in the day that Martin Jones would get the start, the team has instead opted to give Ilya Samsonov his first start since November 24th. Hopefully they pick up the win and Jones will have the chance to pass off the belt to another deserving champion tonight.
