The city of Toronto and fans of the Toronto Blue Jays were set abuzz on Friday by the myriad of rumours regarding baseball superstar Shohei Ohtani making his free agent decision.

For weeks now it has been speculated that the Blue Jays were one of the candidates in the running for Ohtani's services, but over the last few days, they became one of the frontrunners. For a few hours on Friday, we were led to believe that the superstar was "en route" to Toronto on a flight from California.

The rumour that he was on a plane that was heading to Pearson International Airport was eventually debunked, the reporter that had made the claim was forced to apologize, and Ohtani-watch is still very much in effect.

One of the thousands of fans that were duped by the false report included Toronto Maple Leafs forward Max Domi, who tweeted out a GIF of an excited George Springer, outfielder for the Blue Jays, with a caption that read "LFG @BlueJays!!!"

Following the post, there was complete pandemonium in Toronto, as many had assumed that Domi had some sort of inside information on the Ohtani decision, whether it was through his dad, Tie Domi, Drake, or Justin Bieber, through Auston Matthews. According to Domi, though, it was none of the above.

On Saturday, Domi mentioned how he got sucked into the fanfare when he made the post and that his family and friends believed he had some inside scoop and knew what was going on. Domi spoke about the whole ordeal following the Leafs' morning skate.

"I was so pumped. Honestly, I tweeted it out because I'm like 'Hey, it looks like this is happening.' I looked at my phone and my friends and family are texting me like 'what do you know?'. I'm like 'When did I become the MLB insider?' I have no idea what's going on. I don't know the guy at all. I'm just a Jays fan that is really hopeful that he comes and still hopeful, So we'll see."

The Blue Jays landing Ohtani would catapult them into the World Series conversation. It would also bring a whole new set of fans, and it would put Toronto on the map from a global standpoint. It's by far the biggest free agent decision in modern baseball and Ohtani's on pace to shatter the record for largest contract in baseball history.
