The 20-year-old has 8 points in 5 ECHL games to begin his professional career and has likely seen the last of the ECHL. Voit quickly shot up the prospect depth chart of the Leafs since being drafted as he registered 80 points in 67 games for the OHL's Sarnia Sting the season after being drafted and 105 points in 67 games last season. The center/left-winger will certainly add some offensive punch to the Marlies' lineup, as they have just one player with more than 10 goals (Alex Steeves). While Voit is more of a playmaker, he averaged 25 goals his last two seasons in the OHL and had 2 goals in 5 games with the Growlers.
If Voit continues his torrid scoring pace with the Marlies this season, we could see him battle for a spot on the Leafs roster next season and perhaps even a 9-game trial with the Leafs towards the end of the season.
For a team that is often criticized for its lack of secondary scoring, the opportunity will be ripe for the picking for Voit, who could help the bottom-six produce some offense at a steadier pace than what we have seen this season or in season past. Provided his offensive output doesn't plummet as he ascends through the ranks of the ECHL to the AHL and, eventually, the NHL.
