The Omicron variant is responsible for more restrictions coming down in Ontario. Earlier today it was announced by Dr. Kieran Moore that large venues in Ontario can now only have 1,000 people in attendance. Starting on Saturday against the Ottawa Senators, the Leafs have elected to have zero fan attendance.
In a statement an MLSE spokesperson said:
"it is expected that these limits will be in place for the next three weeks at which the time the province has indicated they will reassess restrictions."
Hockey is not the same without fans in attendance and over the past 2 years we have seen how important fans are to the game. That said, with COVID-19 numbers spiking, something had to be done to address the problem.
Hopefully fans can attend games at Scotiabank Arena soon but for now, for the health and safety of the players, personnel and fans, the Leafs will be playing games in front of an empty Scotiabank Arena.
