After a big come from behind the victory against the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Leafs will face-off against the Capitals with a few key changes to the forward groups.
Calle Jarnkrok was on the left wing with Auston Matthews down the middle and Mitch Marner on the right side, which is consistent with their mid-game changes in Tampa. Jarnkrok took over for Tyler Bertuzzi on that top line in the third period, with Bertuzzi shifting down to join John Tavares and William Nylander. That line was skating together at practice on Monday, indicating that they'll remain together in Washington, at least to start the game. Meanwhile, David Kampf was centering the third line with Max Domi and Matthew Knies as the Leafs hope to capitalize on some more of that Domi/Knies magic, and Pontus Holmberg, Ryan Reaves and Noah Gregor rounded out the forward corps on an energetic 4th line.
The defense pairings remain the same as they were on Saturday night and, as we already know, Joseph Woll gets the start against th Caps on Tuesday.
The Capitals have struggled offensively to start the season as they currently sit 32nd in goals per game and 30th in shots per game (24.8 to Toronto's league leading 38.6). They also come in with the 31st ranked power play that has yet to score a goal, and are 31st in face-offs. If the Leafs play this right, this one could be a runaway.
