With Ilya Samsonov's injury holding him out of the lineup for the foreseeable future, rookie netminder Joseph Woll will take over as the starter. If the Leafs are to have any hope at all of pulling off a miraculous comeback in this series, he will have to play better than he has in his entire life.
Occupying Woll's previous position as back up goaltender will be Matt Murray, who hasn't played since suffering a concussion against the Detroit Red Wings on April 2nd. Up until tonight, Murray had been the Leafs' emergency backup goaltender in the playoffs. Now that he's going to be dressing as the backup, the Leafs have called up Dennis "The Hildebeast" Hildeby to serve as the team's EBUG for the playoffs.
Hildeby only recently made the journey across the Atlantic to join the Toronto Marlies. At 6'6, 234lbs, "Hildebeast" is a fitting nickname. He only got into 2 games for the Marlies and his results weren't fantastic, but a .918sv% in this, his sophomore SHL season before coming over was excellent.
