Moments ago, the Toronto Marlies announced that the team has signed a former first round draft pick, Kieffer Bellows, to a professional tryout.

Now 25 years old, Bellows was drafted 19th overall by the Islanders in the 2016 Entry Draft. Through his time with the Islanders organization, Bellows struggled to secure a roster spot and was eventually passed through waivers, and claimed by the Philadelphia Flyers last season. Again with the Flyers, Bellows struggled in only 27 games in the NHL before being sent down to their AHL affiliate.

With only 95 career games played with 14 goals and 14 assists, Bellows' career likely isn't going to live up to the expectations fans may have of a first round draft pick. Originally lauded for his game as power forward with an exceptional shot, his game just hasn't translated to the NHL level.

With the Marlies on a PTO, Bellows likely is trying to extend his career in North America. A return back to the NHL may be a long shot, barring and incredible resurgence in his play with the Marlies. If he can put this opportunity to good use and earn himself an AHL or NHL contract, however, he could be a nice depth piece for the organization.
