His second six-point night came just ten days after his last one. Through just 21 games played in the QMJHL this season, the Blue Jackets prospect already has 48 points. An even crazier stat is that this performance earned him his 91st point in just 37 QMJHL games, beginning last season.
As it stands, Dumais is projected to be the second highest scorer in a season under the age of 20 in the last 20 years in QMJHL history. The only player who is higher is Sidney Crosby.
Dumais is currently on pace to score 163 points this season. The 18-year-old is playing in his third season with the Halifax Mooseheads and is coming off a record-breaking 109-point season. His play on the right wing is seen as elite, his goal-scoring ability is next level and he is truly demonstrating why he may have been the steal of the draft.
In comparison, the Leafs still have made a good choice with Moldenhauer, who is still developing but has a respectable 21 points through 16 games played this season for the Chicago Steel in the USHL.
The two are both wingers and are very similar in height and weight. Moldenhauer has an engine that just won't quit. He should be a lot of fun to watch with the Leafs if and when he makes the jump to the NHL. He recently committed to Michigan and will begin his collegiate career next season.
What Dumais is doing at 18 is pretty impressive. He is a primary playmaker with elite passing skills but is also a legit scoring threat. A dual threat of his caliber is certainly not the type of player you want to miss out on. Only time will tell if this one will go down as a significant miss for the Leafs.
