There must've been a collective sigh of relief after Leaf fans found out the full details behind the Ryan O'Reilly and Noel Acciari trade. Not only were the Leafs able to get O'Reilly at 75% salary retention - they were also able to hold onto their most prized prospect in Matthew Knies.

As of right now, Matthew Knies is still a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs and should, in all likelihood, be around after the trade deadline concludes. He has had a terrific collegiate season for the University of Minnesota in 2022-23 and doesn't look like he's going to be slowing down any time soon either. After 32 games, he has 20 goals and 36 points, including 7 game winning goals - one of which came tonight against Penn State.

Knies tied the game with 41 seconds and then scored the game winning goal with 2:12 remaining in overtime after being set up beautifully by Logan Cooley for the one-timer. The dynamic trio of Cooley, Knies, and Jimmy Snuggerud combined for 4 goals and 5 assists yesterday and continued their dominance again today.

Knies looks primed to join the Maple Leafs after his collegiate season comes to an end and Leafs fans will be waiting in anticipation for his NHL debut. In 65 games with the University of Minnesota in the last 2 seasons, Knies has 35 goals and 69 points, while also making an Olympic appearance in 2022, scoring a goal and adding an assist for Team USA.
