The Toronto Maple Leafs entered the 2021 NHL Entry Draft with just 3 picks this summer; a 2nd, a 5th and a 6th. So far, each pick has yielded some nice early returns for Leafs GM Kyle Dubas.

While many Leafs fans are gushing over Matthew Knies, Nick Robertson, Topi Niemela and Rodion Amirov, 2021 5th-rounder Ty Voit has flown under the radar. That is, until Friday night.

Voit exploded for the OHL's Sarnia Sting on Friday, recording 5 assists in a 6-5 win over the Windsor Spitfires, but what was most impressive about the feat is that all 5 assists were primary assists, meaning Voit created the plays that directly resulted in each of the goals he assisted on.

The 18-year-old Pittsburg native registered just 28 points in 49 games for the Sting last season. Those rookie numbers, along with the fact that he is an average-sized player at just 5'10, 160 lbs, was likely partially to blame for him slipping so far down in the draft. However, this season, the 153rd pick (5th round) in the 2021 draft has accumulated 36 points in just 27 games, and is showing tremendous growth in his game.

It's early yet, but the Leafs may have found a diamond in the rough in Ty Voit.
