Three things are certain in life; death, taxes, and Kyle Dubas trading down in the draft. He has a history of getting "his guy" in the 2nd round while accumulating later picks instead of drafting in the 1st. Although Nick Robertson is still a work in progress, Matthew Knies seems to be a great example of this. Fraser Minten of the WHL's Kamloops Blazers may just be the next illustration of a Dubas 2nd round gem.

Minten had three points last night against the Everett Silvertips in a 6-3 win, giving the 38th overall pick 10 points in his last 5 games. The 6'1, 190-pound center has now amassed 62 points in 51 games played. The Vancouver native has also paced the Blazers' league best power play, scoring 17 power play goals, good for 3rd overall in the entire WHL. Here's one of Minten's goals from last night, another power play tally.

Minten seems to be rounding into form at just the right time. He accumulated 16 points in 17 playoff games as a rookie last year, showing great poise at such a young age. With his late birthday, Minten was one of the youngest players available at the draft and seems to have some untapped potential. The Leafs' management clearly agrees and they will be watching closely as the WHL playoffs get underway on March 31st.
