Morgan Rielly has not played since November 21st and, since his forced absence from the lineup, the Leafs are a surprising 7-0-1 with a makeshift defense corps of Mark Giordano, Justin Holl, Timothy Liljegren, Rasmus Sandin and whoever Sheldon Keefe felt deserved to play between Victor Mete, Conor Timmins and Mac Hollowell. Rielly is expected to be out until at least early January, but until today, the Leafs had not provided any updates on his recovery.

Following the Leafs' game-day skate, Keefe was asked about Rielly and his injury, to which he said, "there's been nothing in this case to suggest he's off the timeline." Essentially, no news is good news for Rielly. Keefe also said that Rielly has been in the gym working out but has yet to put his skates on since the injury. His initial timeline was 4-6 weeks as he deals with an MCL sprain.

Rielly has played in every game dating back to the 2018-2019 season, and has averaged at least 23 minutes per game in each season so maybe him having a few months off in the middle of the season won't be a bad thing. He will come back refreshed and healthy for the playoffs where the minutes are heavier and harder.
