The Toronto Maple Leafs and Columbus Blue Jackets ended up playing one of the wildest games of the season last night. The 5-goal, third period comeback by the Leafs overshadowed the fact that they did it with just 11 forwards following an injury to Ryan Reaves.
During a shift midway through the first period last night, Reaves lost an edge and went into the boards awkwardly. He initially tried to skate off under his own power, but eventually had to be helped off by Conor Timmins and Simon Benoit. Following the game, head coach Sheldon Keefe provided an update on the 36-year-old and it wasn't good.
"He'll miss some time"
Keefe elaborated saying they won't know more until Reaves undergoes further testing today. Regardless, the Leafs' injury list got bigger. With Reaves out, it takes away some of the team's toughness, but also opens the door for guys like Alex Steeves and Pontus Holmberg, who are playing very well with the Toronto Marlies, to get a few games in with the Leafs.
