The 25-year-old has been on waivers three times this season and all three times he has been claimed. In October, the Leafs placed him on waivers and he was claimed by the Montreal Canadiens. In the middle of November he was on waivers again this time, he has claimed by Vegas. After 7 games in a Golden Knights sweater where he scored two goals in 7 games, Brooks was placed on waivers again and has returned to the team that drafted him.
Between 2019 and 2021, Brooks played in 18 games for the Leafs - scoring 8 points in the process. Brooks showed last season that he can be a good bottom 6 forward and contribute. He developed good chemistry with Jason Spezza, so perhaps the two can reunite their chemistry if Brooks finds himself back in the Leafs' lineup.
In October when Brooks was on waivers, Keefe talked about how the situation was a win-win for the Leafs because either a player that they developed stays in the NHL or they get to keep a player they are high on in the organization. 4 months later, Brooks is back with the coach with whom he won a Calder Cup in 2018.
Brooks provides the Leafs with another solid bottom 6 depth option. He has the scoring touch that can be valuable to the team, especially because he has shown flashes of it in limited games. It is unknown what his role will be, but Brooks is back in the Leafs organization.
