Leafs re-sign free agent center to multi-year deal
It has been very quiet with regard to Leafs news this summer, as all of the talk has been about the impending Auston Matthews and William Nylander extensions. Today, however, the first domino has fallen for pending UFAs in Toronto as the Leafs have re-signed forward David Kampf to a 4-year deal that will carry an AAV of $2.5M per season.
Kampf has become one of the Leafs' premiere penalty killers and one of the most trusted defensive forwards since joining the team two seasons ago. He will continue to be a solid and reliable fourth line center.
Kampf is a player who kills plays in his own zone and constantly sends play in the right direction. He has a relentless motor and never stops working. That's obviously something that Brad Treliving had liked about the veteran pivot, who is now signed through 2027.
All-in-all, a pretty nice deal for both sides here, as Kampf gets some stability and the Leafs keep one of their primary PKers and a solid defensive forward. Win/win.
**As an update, per Chris Johnston, Kampf's AAV is actually $2.4M, so the Leafs save an additional $100K for another deal**
