The Leafs got some good news this morning as John Klingberg took to the ice for the first time in a little over a week. Klingberg had been off the ice with an upper-body injury since leaving the first period of a pre-season game against Buffalo last week when "something tightened up" according to Sheldon Keefe.

Prior to his injury, Klingberg was familiarizing himself with the Leafs' top powerplay unit as new assistant coach Guy Boucher moved Klingberg in to Morgan Rielly's place to add an additional shooting threat. Klingberg was skating alongside Jake McCabe on the Leafs' second pairing prior to his injury.defensive play.

With the team's roster already set for tonight's game, Klingberg will not play against Detroit this evening, but could still return to the lineup for Saturday's pre-season finale against the Wings.

Klingberg has a lot riding on this season. Not only did he miss out on a big payday with the Stars a few seasons back, but his short stints in Anaheim and Minnesota last season left a lot to be desired. A big season with the Leafs could mean a substantial payday next summer. Another down year, however, and it's a much different story.
