Leafs reveal starter for tonight's game against Boston
The Leafs have dropped their last 2 headed into an important divisional matchup against the Boston Bruins tonight. Poor defensive coverage in their own end and a lack of depth scoring have been issues for the Leafs so far this season, but most concerning is the situation in net. Ilya Samsonov has simply not been good enough to start the season, and Joseph Woll was touched for 4 goals by the LA Kings on Tuesday. It's too early to hit the panic button right now, but let's not put it away just yet.
The good news is that November is here. Looking at this season compared to the last two, things are trending the same way. In 2021-22 the Leafs went 4-4-1 in October, in 22-23 they went 4-4-2. This year, the Leafs improved to a 5-3-1 record by Halloween. The Leafs have been nigh unbeatable in the second month of the season the last 2 years. In 2021-22, the Leafs went 12-2-1 in November. Last season, they went 11-1-3. Let's hope that trend continues.
Starting in goal against the Bruins tonight will be the struggling Ilya Samsonov. The Leafs have no choice but to play him until he regains his confidence, Joe Woll can't play every night. Hopefully switching back to last season's mask will give Sammy the confidence boost he needs. If he can play like he did last season, the Leafs will be in great shape!
