Leafs reveal starting goalie for Monday's game against Tampa
The Leafs are back in action on Monday evening, looking to snap a 4-game losing streak against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Coming into this one, many were unsure of whom the Leafs may opt to start in goal, since Ilya Samsonov allowed 3 goals on 4 shots against Tampa last time around, with Joseph Woll coming in to save his bacon, backstopping the Leafs to a huge comeback win. However, Woll has allowed a combined 9 goals in his last two starts, so it was really anyone's guess which way the Leafs would go.
Well, we now have our answer. During the Leafs' morning skate, Joseph Woll stayed out for extra work, with Samsonov leaving the ice first, the usual routine for a starting goalie. Therefore, we'll see Samsonov draw in tonight and a chance at redemption for the 26-year-old.
Samsonov has been much improved of late, most recently making 38 saves and posting a .950 SV% in a shootout loss to Boston on November 2nd. If he can maintain the same focus that he displayed in Boston, the Leafs will certainly have something to build on with him.
Tonight's tilt with Tampa is only the 2nd game of a 5-game homestand, so I'm sure we'll see Samsonov and Woll split the net pretty evenly here over the next week or so.
