Kampf's absence came as a bit of a surprise given that he did not miss any games leading up to the break, which had many wondering if it was more of an illness than injury. Unfortunately, following practice, Keefe provided an update on Kampf and it was not good. Keefe said that Kampf had suffered an injury prior to the break, but they would not know the extent of the injury until further testing came back and officially reported Kampf as day-to-day.
Just prior to the break, Keefe provided a similar type of update on Calle Jarnkrok, who is now out for the next month with a broken knuckle. Without Jarnkrok already, losing Kampf for a significant length of time will hinder the bottom-six and penalty kill further.
The Leafs should provide a further update on Kampf's injury and status at some point today. Through 46 games with the Leafs so far this season, Kampf has 4 goals and 8 points, is a minus-9 and has struggled defensively where he is often heavily relied upon by Keefe.
