The news was broken by TSN's Chris Johnston, just a few short hours after the Leafs signed feisty winger Tyler Bertuzzi to a 1-year, $5.5M deal. These deals, in combination with yesterday's signing of Ryan Reaves, have definitely made the Leafs a lot tougher to play against.
Domi enjoyed a bit of a career resurgence last season in Chicago, where he had 49 points in 60 games before being dealt to the Dallas Stars at the trade deadline. His new deal in Toronto is expected to come in around the $3M range.
With all of the money the Leafs have spent over the last 2 days, at least one significant trade is expected to clear some cap space. There is also a possibility that more than one deal could occur, which would allow the Leafs to continue to re-vamp and bolster their blueline as well.
Domi is currently on vacation overseas, so the deal is not expected to be finalized until tomorrow, per several trusted NHL insiders.
