Instead of a day off before taking on the Buffalo Sabres Saturday night, the Leafs had a full practice on Friday, running the same lines used against the Devils last night.
Unfortunately, just 20 minutes into practice, Auston Matthews departed after taking a shot off of his foot. Matthews was in some discomfort and was seen trying to shake it off to remain at practice but was unable to continue. The silver-lining here is that he was able to walk off on his own, albeit with a bit of a limp.
It's not good news for a Leafs team who is already struggling to score goals. The Buds have had a tough time scoring of late, especially at 5-on-5, which is normally an area of strength for Auston Matthews. The 25-year-old is shooting just 10% this season, which is well below his career average of 16.1%.
Hopefully it's just a stinger and he'll be alright and able to play tomorrow. Matthews has caught fire of late with 11 points in his last 8 games, including 5 goals.
