Some good news to report in Leaf land as 2019 53rd overall draft pick Nick Robertson was back on the ice on Friday for the first time since fracturing his fibula back in October for a solo skate.

Marlies head coach Greg Moore gave reporters the news this morning following practice, and the news was first reported on Twitter by Marlies beat reporter Nick Barden.

The original prognosis was that Robertson would likely resume skating in early January, possibly returning later in the month. So far that timeline appears accurate. This doesn't mean his return is imminent, but it's a great sign.

I think all Leafs fans want Robertson on the ice. His development is important to the future success of the franchise. You'd much prefer that a young player has a chance to play, rather than to have his development stunted by bad luck and injuries. A healthy Robertson can also be a valuable trade asset if Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas if the right deal comes along.

Robertson has been limited to just 2 games for the Marlies this season. While he does have 2 assists to his credit, pacing at a point-per game, injuries have plagued him thus far throughout his entire professional career, however limited it may be.

The Leafs, Marlies and Robertson himself need him to remain healthy for a long enough stretch to begin to evaluate him to see what they have.
