The Toronto Maple Leafs made a bit of a splash on Sunday, placing recently acquired forward Dryden Hunt on waivers to be sent down to the Toronto Marlies. Acquired for Denis Malgin in a deal with the Colorado Avalanche, Hunt never quite found his footing in the Leafs lineup. The 27 year old seems to have been displaced by Bobby McMann, who has been excellent since being called up from the Marlies.

If Hunt is claimed, the team that picks him up will be the fourth team he plays for this season. He started with the New York Rangers, then was claimed off waivers by Colorado before being traded to the Leafs. So far this season, Hunt has tallied 3 goals in 37 games, he is yet to record an assist.

If the league follows the trend of claiming every single Leafs player possible, it's likely we have seen the last of Hunt in the Leafs lineup. His heavy forechecking and hard work down low will be missed, but as mentioned above, Bobby McMann has shown that he can not only replace Hunt's physicality, but also bring more offence along with it.

This seems to be a preparatory move for Dubas, either clearing a roster spot for Pontus Holmberg to rejoin the team or clearing a contract slot for an incoming trade. If Hunt is claimed and Holmberg is not immediately called up, expect to see Dubas making one of his patented early trade deadline deals soon.
