Lewd gesture between Swiss teammates caught on camera at the World Championships
Anyone who has played organized sports knows that there's almost nothing that's off limits in the locker room. Whether it needs to change or not is a different conversation entirely. There are certainly aspects of locker room banter and comaraderie that are no doubt outdated and can be offensive to some, but that's not what this piece is about. The opening comment is just to acknowledge that it exists, nothing more.
Social media is in a bit of a frenzy after a video clip captured one Swiss player bending over to stretch out his legs before Switzerland's game against the Team USA earlier this week. The act of stretching his legs wasn't what people were going wild about - it was what happened next. One of his teammates who was behind him began dry-humping him in front of teammates, coaches and training staff.
Now, this is not even being talked about were it not for the camera being present, but nevertheless, it was and here we are. Most took the time to crack jokes or tag their friends, but some also took issue with the Swiss team's behaviour and general lack of concern over the gesture perhaps being caught on film and taken out of context.
It's like photographing animals in the wild. There are just some things you don't catch on camera too often. This is just one of those things. Some will call it boys being boys, others will take issue with it. That's just the nature of the beast.
