While the score being run up was certainly a story in the game, it was not the most dominant storyline, as a 2nd period goal by Evgeni Malkin that was scored after the whistle was the most talk about moment in the game. Here's the play.
The call following the review was that the play was ruled still alive and that Malkin had intent to put the puck into the open net before the play was blown dead, but even a short review of the play revealed that the whistle had gone before Malkin had touched the loose puck.
Social media had a field day with the call, and for good reason, as the NHL officials continue to showcase their incompetence and inconsistency. It would not surprise me in the least if there were some amendments to the rules on plays like this one either this summer.
