As the Pittsburgh Penguins, who previously held the longest playoff streak at sixteen seasons and the Washington Capitals, who had made the postseason a respectable eight seasons, now eliminated, the Leafs share the longest active playoff streak (seven years) with none other than the Boston Bruins. Throughout that seven-year tenure, these two met in the first round in back-to-back seasons in 2018 and 2019, with the Bruins coming away with both series wins.
The Bruins have had quite the run in those seven years. In just two of those seasons they were eliminated in the first round, in three separate seasons they made it to the Conference semifinals losing deep in the series and once made the Stanley Cup Final in 2019. Adding to their recent success, they have taken the league by storm this season by breaking the NHL record for wins and points in a regular season while losing a combined 17 games all season. The Leafs - well, we all know the story.
The Leafs went 50-21-11 this season. This may have been overshadowed due to the historic season the Bruins have had, but it should not be overlooked just how consistent the Maple Leafs have been this season. As a testament to that, the Leafs have only lost more than two games straight on just one occasion this season and that was back in October.
