Despite landing with the Wild, Fleury reportedly had opportunities with other cities, including with the Washington Capitals, who Flower was unwilling to waive his NTC for. Loyalty in sports is a hell of a thing. The Penguins left Fleury exposed in the Vegas Expansion Draft so that they could protect Matt Murray over him, and STILL, Fleury didn't want to accept a trade to Washington - arguably the Penguins' biggest out of state rival.
It's no wonder that Fleury is loved by his teammates and the fanbase of every city he plays in. He's just such an honest and loyal player and teammate. It's just too bad that he was sacrificed in Pittsburgh and then moved, essentially against his will, by management in Vegas.
Nevertheless, Fleury has found himself with a nice opportunity in Minnesota, working in a bit of a net share situation with Cam Talbot. The Wild are an up-and-coming team who already play a brand of playoff hockey that tends to lead to postseason success. Now, with a Vezina Trophy winner in the fold, the sky is truly the limit for Minnesota.
