The Columbus Blue Jackets were dealt a tough blow on Saturday against the Minnesota Wild, as defenseman Zach Werenski appears to have suffered a significant injury.
Minnesota Wild defenseman, Jacob Middleton absolutely steamrolled Werenski after the Blue Jackets defender fired the puck, with Middleton's shoulder appearing to catch Werenski on the chin.
Werenski remained on the ice for a few minutes and was clearly shaken up on the play. He was eventually assisted off by his teammates.
The primary point of contact from Middleton did appear to be the torso, though there was certainly some head contact afterward. Werenski was forced to enter concussion protocol and would not return, playing just over 6 minutes in the contest.
