Ever since Matt Murray came back from injured reserve, it has felt like he is borderline unbeatable. He was 6-0-2 since the 15th of November, beating teams like Pittsburgh, New Jersey, Minnesota, and Dallas along the way, posting a save percentage of .941.

Tonight, against the Calgary Flames, there was finally a human performance from the Thunder Bay native as he struggled throughout the game. In the end, the offence bailed him out - specifically William Nylander - and Murray was very quick to credit the team in front of him for picking up his slack.

Murray allowed 4 goals on 26 shots, some not so pretty, but the big guns of the Leafs' offence came to the rescue as Nylander scored 2 goals and added 3 assists to cap off a 5-point night. Auston Matthews scored a goal and added 2 assists and Mitch Marner continued his torrid run with a goal and an assist.

After the game, Murray wasted no time in applauding his teammates, first saying that Nylander "was basically the reason we got two points". Next, he applauded the rest of the team by saying "we did a heck of a job of sticking with it and finding a way to get the two points in a messy game."

The Leafs improved to 18-5-6 and Murray picked up his 7th win of the season, moving to 7-1-2 through his first 10 starts as a Leaf. Like Murray said. It wasn't the prettiest of games, but in the end, the outcome is really all that matters.
