Since winning back-to-back Stanley Cups as a rookie goaltender, Matt Murray has struggled to find his game over the last few seasons in Ottawa. Between injuries and the tragic passing of his dad in 2018, the past few years have been extremely difficult. After being acquired by the Leafs from Ottawa, many questioned if Kyle Dubas made the right move. Essentially risking his job for an oft-injured goaltender that struggled the previous few seasons even when he was healthy.

So far, that risk has paid off. Murray is 5-1-1 with a .927 save percentage and is 5-0-1 since returning from an adductor injury that he suffered in October. Murray sat down with Sportsnet's Christine Simpson this week and discussed what it means to don the blue and white after his father's passing.

"He would think it's the coolest thing ever, honestly. It was my favourite team growing up for sure and my Dad's favourite team," said Murray when asked what his Dad would think of him playing for the Leafs. Murray's Dad was his hero and they used to spent countless nights watching Leaf games together. I'd imagine we'll get an extended look at Simpson's interview with Murray during tonight's coverage of Hockey Night in Canada.

Murray will look to continue his stellar play tonight as the Leafs visit Tampa and look to extend his record to 6-1-1 and the Leafs' win streak to 6-straight.
