Matt Murray suffered an abductor injury this morning just 10 minutes into the game day skate. His injury forced Ilya Samsonov to start against Ottawa and led to Erik Kallgren being recalled on emergency basis.

Prior to the game against Ottawa, the Leafs placed Murray on LTIR, meaning he won't be able to play for 24 days and 10 games. Placing him on LTIR gives the Leafs $3.9M in cap space which means they can now afford to carry 3 extra skaters instead of just 20. That could mean we haven't seen the last of Wayne Simmonds in a Leaf jersey just yet. It also means that we will likely see Nick Robertson make his season debut sooner than expected - although he should've been on the team to start.

Of course, one Murray returns the Leafs will have to revert back to only 20 skaters, unless they can move salary out over the next month. In doing so, they would also alleviate some of their contract constraints as they are currently at 50/50 contracts.
