After playing all season with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers and only being in Toronto for the playoffs, it can be assumed the 20-year-old winger won't be signing a lease of his own just yet, knowing he is likely returning home in the offseason. Luckily, a notable figure on the team has taken Knies under his wing and provided him somewhere to stay while he's in Toronto.
Knies will be staying with John Tavares and his family during the playoffs. With John's two young sons running around, I'm sure it's been keeping Knies on his toes, playing mini sticks. Knies revealed his temporary residence on Sunday following practice, saying "makes me feel far more welcome and part of the family".
The captain opening his home to a newcomer like Knies is a significant gesture. It shows Tavares' leadership level off the ice and is a great way to integrate Knies into the team more. Knies also revealed that a number of Leafs opened up their homes and offered him a place to stay as well. Any rumours of the atmosphere in Toronto being overwhelmingly positive in the locker room are not being exaggerated it seems.
