Max Domi becomes unhinged, goes after several Sabres players before being tossed from the game
When Max Domi signed a 1-year deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs, he called the decision a "no-brainer". He had grown up around the team when his dad, Tie Domi, played for the Leafs in the 90's and 2000's, grew up a Maple Leafs fan and oozes passion.
His tenure with the Leafs thus far has been a bit of a mixed bag, starting very slow, but then really having come to life in recent weeks, since being moved to center on the 3rd line. Now, with 5 points in his last 5 games, Domi has arrived.
Last night, during a 9-3 beatdown at the hands of the Buffalo Sabres, almost nobody on the Leafs' bench gave a sh*t about the embarrassment that they were forced to endure. Nobody, that is, except for Domi, who had finally had enough in the 3rd period, becoming completely unhinged and going after several Sabres players, earning himself a rough penalty at the end of the 3rd, effectively ending his night early.
Domi first went at Jeff Skinner, then clipped another Sabre with a punch, sending him to the ice before several players rushed the feisty forward with a full-blown scrum ensuing.
Following the play, as Domi was being ushered off by the officials, Skinner continued to antagonize him from the bench, even making fun of his several missing teeth. Call me crazy, but I don't think Skinner would have been man enough to make those comments to Domi if they were face to face without officials between them.
In the end, all the Leafs can really do is chalk this one up as a loss and move on. I can't imagine the next meeting between these two teams will be a civil one, though.
