Domi has been in the league since 2015-16 and has attained a ton of experience over that time. He has played for many different NHL coaches and with many different linemates and teammates over the years, picking up useful bits of information along the way. So what better way to put that information to good use than to share it with the next generation of players in Toronto?
Cowan and Domi have skated on a line together at times during camp as the two have found a bit of chemistry on the ice as well. How much longer Cowan stays at camp remains to be seen, but Sheldon Keefe has been impressed so far. The most likely outcome here is that Cowan is sent back to junior, but even if that does happen, Domi feels as though he has a friend for life, despite the large age gap.
It's very cool to hear that Domi has taken on a bit of a leadership role in his first season in Toronto. There's no doubt that Cowan appreciates it and the team is all the better for it. The more locker room leaders, the better.
