Finally, the NHL's Department of Player Safety steps in and holds someone accountable for their actions against a Leafs player! Player Safety announced on Wednesday that they have issued a $5,000 fine to Tampa defenseman Mikhail Sergachev for his slash on Leafs forward Michael Bunting.

The play occurred in the 2nd period of last night's Leafs/Lightning game when Sergachev and Bunting were skating through the neutral zone. You can see the slash below.

This is the type of stuff you love to see - the Department of Player Safety actually holding a player accountable for their actions. Sergachev had no business chopping at Bunting's hand/wrist there and it was a dangerous play. While a $5,000 fine is pretty miniscule in comparison to what these players make, it's still nice to see the league taking action to help deter this type of play.
