The Toronto Maple Leafs have started off 2024 with a bit of a mixed bag, winning 4 straight against the California teams before dropping 4 straight to the Islanders, Avalanche, Red Wings and Oilers. Now back on a winning note after beating Calgary on Thursday, the Leafs are starting down a back-to-back against to tough Pacific Division foes in Vancouver and Seattle tonight and tomorrow.
The Leafs took to the ice in Vancouver on Friday for a practice session ahead of tonight's game, but instead of being all business, one of the Maple Leafs' star players took it upon himself to create a little levity and comedic relief.
Mitch Marner took to the ice ahead of practice on Friday wearing teammate Jake McCabe's gear instead of his own. Naturally, the 6-foot, 180-pound Marner looked a little bit goofy in 6'1, 211-pound McCabe's gear, but it was certainly good for a laugh.
Jokes aside, Marner has amassed 4 points in his last 5 games and is now up to 48 points in 43 games this season, putting him at a 91-point pace. If he can maintain that pace, it will mark his third consecutive season over 90 points and the 4th 90+ point season of his career. Of course, it would be 6 straight seasons over that mark had COVID-19 not shortened two NHL seasons, but I digress.
