Mitch Marner shows off wounds from his face being driven into the dasher in Winnipeg
Mitch Marner is as elusive as they come, often able to evade checks thanks to his high hockey IQ and on-ice awareness. However, when someone runs you from behind while you're trying to protect the puck on the power play, there's not a heck of a lot you can do. Such was the case on Saturday, when Winnipeg Jets defenseman Dylan DeMelo leveled Marner right in the numbers while he was attempting a curl-back with the puck and driving his face into the dasher.
Marner did not come away from the hit unscathed, as he was bloodied on the hit and is now sporting a few small cuts, bruises and a nice shiner as a result. Fortunately, Marner says he is feeling much better and that it looks worse than it is.
"I don't feel it The first text I got was from my mom thinking I lost some teeth, and then my fiancé. But no, all good Kind of funny, I look like I got jumped or something but I'm all good."
Marner may not be the biggest guy on the ice during any given game, but he has shown some toughness and resiliency in the past. As you'll recall, last season, Marner was struck in the face with a wicked high stick that broke a few of his teeth and was right back out there for his next shift.
