Another former Toronto Maple Leaf has landed himself a new gig this summer, albeit in an off-ice capacity for the former NHLer. Montreal Canadiens General Manager Kent Hughes announced today that the team would appoint former Leafs defenseman Stephan Robidas as an assistant coach with the Habs.

Robidas played in 14 NHL seasons with the Montreal Canadiens, Dallas Stars, Chicago Blackhawks, Anaheim Ducks and Toronto Maple Leafs.

Robidas played 52 games with the Leafs in the 2014-15 season, but he sustained a season-ending injury and was unfortunately forced to retire. After that, the Leafs made him the Assistant Director of Player Development and Director of Player Development between 2015 and 2021.

Habs head coach Martin St. Louis issued the following statement on the Robidas hire on Thursday morning:

"We are very lucky to have someone of Stephane's caliber join our coaching staff. His recent experience as an NHL player, and his outstanding hockey background, will be excellent assets for the development of our players."

Robidas played in 937 career NHL games. He had 57 goals and 201 assists for a total of 258 points. The 45-year-old was a good soldier for the Leafs since his playing days came to an end and we wish him all the best in his new endeavor -- just not when the Habs play the Leafs.
