The Leafs are a battered bunch right now, following injuries to Petr Mrazek, Ilya Lyubushkin and Justin Holl on Tuesday. The Buds made a bevy of roster moves on Wednesday, beginning with the injured Ondrej Kase. The Leafs have placed Kase on LTIR, meaning he'll miss a minimum of 10 games and 24 days of action.

Amid a flurry of injuries, the team has recalled a trio of players from the AHL's Toronto Marlies, as Mac Hollowell, Filip Kral, and Michael Hutchinson will join the Leafs under the league's emergency conditions.

This recent blow comes on the heels of a 6-4 victory over the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night. Defenders Justin Holl and Ilya Lyubushkin departed the game at separate points - Holl, due to taking a puck off the face/head and Lyubushkin, due to being sucker punched by Taylor Hall. Meanwhile, Mrazek was forced out with a groin injury in the first period.

The timing couldn't be worse for the Leafs. Consequently, the incredibly competitive Atlantic Division just got tougher. But where catastrophe strikes, opportunities present themselves. If ever there was a time for an unsung hero to emerge in Toronto, that moment is now.

The Leafs are back at home on Thursday to take on the Winnipeg Jets at Scotiabank Arena. The last meeting between these two clubs got out of hand and led to a knee injury for Rasmus Sandin and suspensions to Jason Spezza and Winnipeg's Neal Pionk. This one could get rough.
