Just when you thought all was well and good for the Leafs with Timothy Liljegren exiting protocol, the team's official PR account on Twitter has confirmed that a player and a coach have been held out of practice on Monday.

It was announced early this afternoon that Leafs forward Auston Matthews and assistant coach Dean Chynoweth missed practice today for precautionary reasons. Matthews was one of the few Leafs who wasn't in COVID protocols over the holidays. Matthews was named the NHL's first star of the month for December.

It is not confirmed if this is related to COVID-19, but it is worth noting that the Ottawa Senators, who the Leafs played on Saturday, added 3 new players to COVID protocol this morning.

Hopefully Matthews and Chynoweth are only out for precautionary reasons and will test negative, so that they can both get back on the ice in time for the Leafs' next practice.

The Buds are back in action on Wednesday when they take on the Edmonton Oilers.
